Impressive wordplay and lyrical performance in “Stereotypical Angry Black Guy” by Spaceman

Spaceman is an emcee, songwriter and producer who views music as a vehicle through which he is able to express himself in an artistic fashion. For him, music has the ability to share feelings, emotions, ideas, like no other method.

Diving into exploring and developing rhythms, textures and phrases allows Spaceman to reveal elements of himself that he would normally not.

He recently released an EP titled, “Fascist Utopia”, which has been interpreted as a strongly political album. However, for Spaceman this not the case, it is a satirical rap project which tells of the world and society he experiences. If this reflection of his reality activates such strong emotions then perhaps we are sharing his truth.

The third song from this EP, titled “Stereotypical Angry Black Guy” is a entertaining and humourous diliberation concerning our societal weaknesses and injustices all for the greed of power and money.

The song begins with an old school hip-hop beat, reminiscent of the early 90s’, and a gentle subwoofer pulsing in the background, creating a funky and mellow soundscape.

Spaceman raps with an incredibly impressive continuous flow, a ceaseless stream of witty rhythmical phrasing, unfolding a vivid story in your mind’s eye.

He introduces unique vocal embellishments and intricacies throughout the song, such as alliteration and highs and lows with increasing and decresing intensity, all of which keep the listener hypnotised, eager for more.

Spaceman is a gifted wordsmith who’s thought-provoking lyrics flow effortlessly together, captivating listeners, initiating interest and intrigue with witty narration.

His confident attitude reflects the chorus’s final verse, “we don’t give a fuck, oh!”.

Music is the one thing that Spaceman believes in, he has quoted; “When you live in a world like ours, that seems to take pleasure in undermining whatever you expect from it, the prospect of building your own cultural atmosphere becomes pretty compelling”.

If you enjoy music from artists such as Danny Brown and Run the Jewels, then Spaceman will fit perfectly on your playlist.
